Premier AT Home

Overview

Provide students easy access to the same technology at home as they have at school

Premier AT Home is an exciting program that is designed to provide students with access to same literacy technology at home that they use while in school. By making literacy a “family affair”, students and parents can embark on a literacy adventure together. Getting students accustomed to using AT as a life tool is critical for the long term goal of independence for life outside of the classroom. There comes a time in a student’s life when they become adults and they begin to live in an integrated world, with no reduced work load, no extended time, and no resource room. It is critical that students learn to be independent. If a student needs assistive technology at school, then they need it at home too. The long-term value of using the technology at home is that the students are doing it independently ... a critical step towards a life of independence.

How does the Premier AT Home program work?

It is simple.  Any school district that is already a participant in the Premier In School Program can simply sign up for the Home Use extension. Once a school signs up for the program, they are given a user name and password that allows students to log into the www.PremierATHome.com site and download any and all Premier Literacy products onto their personal computers. The Premier AT Home license runs for a full 12 months and is renewable each year.

What are the advantages of Premier AT Home?

The Premier AT Home program eliminates many of the barriers commonly found with letting students use technology at home:

Deployment: Many schools, even if they had an unlimited site license for Premier Literacy product, find it very difficult to get CD’s distributed for home use. The Premier AT Home program eliminates this by hosting all the technology on a secure website that students can log into, select the programs that they want and install them. Now schools only need to distribute a user name and password. Only one Username and Password is required for an entire school to keep the management of the system easy to understand and use for everyone.

Licensing: Many schools may have a license for a specific technology that allows it only to be installed on computers owned by the organization. The Premier AT Home program eliminates this worry, because it extends the licensing to the students' computers as well. Schools do not need to manage the Premier AT Home licensing. This eliminates the organization’s need to manage the assignment and allocation of specific software licenses to individuals.

Version Control: The only thing constant when it comes to technology is change. In the past, allowing students to take technology home has always been difficult because software is constantly changing and the logistics of deploying technology upgrades made it nearly impossible. The Premier AT Home program eliminates this, because students can log into the site and download the technology at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Schools do not need to provide any systems support for the Premier AT Home program. The site is hosted by Premier Literacy and it is our responsibility to keep the site up-to-date. As a result, the students at home will never have to wait for the most current version of our technology.

Access to AT Year-Round: Many schools offer students access to literacy technology during the school year. However, a student's challenges do not end with the last day of school. The Premier AT Home program allows students to use the technology year round, so they do not have to stop reading at the end of the school year.

Content: The Premier AT Home program will include our E-Library, so not only will students have access to the literacy technology, they will have access to an entire library so that they can read whenever they want to. What good is technology if you don’t have anything to read?

Tech Support: Since Premier AT Home is a service, we will handle the support for our applications. Schools do not have the resources to support AT home users with the wide variety of operating systems, firewalls, security, and hardware. Many schools do not have the expertise to be able to support a large volume of AT home users. Premier Literacy eliminates that worry by doing the technical support for you. We offer technical assistance on the site in the form of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's, a knowledge base of questions), email and phone support.

Site Hosting: Premier Literacy hosts the site for school so they do not need to worry about Internet security and the maintenance of a website, servers, etc.

Foreign Languages

English as a Second Language: The Premier AT Home program supports the following languages: French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese. We realize that there is a significant number of students that struggle with the English language, so we support their primary language as well.

Translation between multiple languages: The Premier AT Home program also supports translation between English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. The translation technology will allow students and parents alike to be able to read documents distributed by school, research foreign language websites, etc.
